This airport serves the capital Gaborone and is the country’s busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic. Its operation, however, is facing a number of constraints. With a maximum capacity of 225 people, the terminal building is inadequate to handle the steadily growing passenger flow.
In support of Government’s aim at developing the aviation industry, the project will rehabilitate the existing terminal building and construct a new one, bringing the total area from 3,140 m2 to 17,000 m2. In addition, baggage handling and screening equipment will be installed, and personnel will receive training in its operation and maintenance. The runway will also be rehabilitated and a 4,000 m parallel taxiway built.
